Tell me how and when everything started.
Everything started over 15 years ago. when we first met at the San Diego Zoo toy shop. It’s where we first met. That summer we talked about swimsuits almost daily. From that point on we spent every summer at the beach. On Valentines Day 2012, Aida saw that FWSD was accepting applications so we decided to go for it. The rest is history.

When did you first know that you wanted to be a swimwear designer?
We didn’t. It just sort of happened. We had always dreamed about swimsuits that we wanted for ourselves.

Where do you get your inspiration for your collections?
We get inspiration from all over. From our friends, family, beautiful city and past designers and eras we admire.

What advice would you give someone considering a similar path?
Just do it! We are firm believers in hard work and keeping business in our City. We never chose this path it chose us and we feel blessed to be able to do what we love in the City we love.

What makes your line unique?
It is a mix of both of our styles. We are both so different. We mix bohemian looks with glamorous poolside chic of different decades. Our upcoming s/s 2014 line features modified cuts from the 80’s and early 90’s. High waist and unusual cuts make our swimsuits flattering.

How would you describe your personal style?
Aida is glamorous, fantastically gaudy, flirty and very body conscious. Syncletica is much more subdued, her style is more bohemian, easy going. However, she never stays away from sequin, fringe and fun textures.

What’s next for your company?
We have no idea. We are just along for the ride!
