1- How did you get into fashion? Tell me how and when everything started.
The fashion industry has always been something I was interested in. When I finally decided to pursue my dream of working within fashion there were no opportunities available at the time. This is when I decided to create my own opportunity and launched my own company Manchester Public Relations. My first official clients were Kathi Chandler and Alison Robertson-Boris of Ally Kat Style and I honestly I couldn’t have asked for a better pair of women to work with. We grew together and learned a great deal from one another.
2- When did you first know that you wanted to be in fashion?
I have never had the talent to create beautiful pieces of clothing or jewelry. However I love fashion, especially how it can be a form of artistic expression. With my background in public relations and my fervor for fashion I decided to start freelancing as a fashion publicist.
3- If you weren’t in the fashion industry, what would you like to be doing?
Hmmm, that’s a good question. I use to want to be an actress but I think I would have been the most camera shy actress out there. I love jobs that drive creativity and allows you to think non-traditionally as well as outside the box.
4- Tell us about your fabulous blog and what products or serviced do you offered?
I wanted to add a blog element to my website so that I could offer the opportunity for my readers to become more familiarized with me as well as the fashion and pr industry.
5- How would you describe your personal style?
My style has definitely changed over the years, I think your style says a lot about you and can change just like your personality can. Just to name a few things I adore: silky lightweight blouses, statement jewelry and I am also big fan of layering. Living in the New York the weather is very unpredictable so layers are perfect for the fall and spring months. I pretty much love everything!
6- Who is your favorite designer/Brands?
LaRok, House of Harlow 1960 and Ben Sherman just to name a few. I also really love discovering emerging designers, which is part of the reason why I launched my company.
7- If you had a choice of all designers in the world, whom would you prefer to work for? Why? I would have to say Rachel Roy. I love her work and through candid interviews she seems extremely down to earth and a pleasure to work with.
8- Are there any special projects you would like to work on?
I have a to-do list that is mile long! Doing public relations opens your eyes and a world of different professionals. I am looking forward to meeting new designers, boutique owners, photographers, bloggers etc… I hope to continue to expand my network and meet more emerging designers. Each designer that I have met has had a story to tell and it really makes the encounter interesting when their designs are close to their hearts.
9- Which magazines do you read? Which magazine is your favorite?
InStyle, Lucky, Gotham, Fitness and Self.
10- What do you see in stores that you think is really great?
Again, I love everything!!! Let me see the other day I saw fantastic faux leather purse which was extremely affordable and big enough to hold just about anything. There is a weekender that I have been eyeing for a while that I just love by Tarah Smith!
11- What motivates you?
Women that I have met from day to day are really a driving force. It’s easy to lose your way and become discouraged so it’s nice to see other women starting from scratch and making their company a complete success.
12- What’s next for you?
I will continue to grow Manchester Public Relations and perfect my craft as a public relations professional.
13- What do you do in your down time?
I love working out and challenging myself it’s a great way to relieve stress. I am also big TV and movie junkie. My DVR just does not have enough space!
Big thanks to Nadia for taking the time to talk to Unik!
