Do What You Love: The Re-Stylist

Bryn TaylorBryn Taylor is a fashion stylist based in New York and founder of The Re-Stylist a styling service that helps clients create modern, flattering ways of dressing. Founded in New York City the company has recently expanded to include the San Francisco Bay Area. Keep reading to see how Bryn turned her passion into a career!

Tell me how and when everything started, when did you know you wanted to be a stylist?
I started styling by accident almost 10 years ago when I was working for a small designer as a production assistant. She asked for help with styling the showroom and buyer presentations, and I just fell in love with it. At the time, I didn’t even know styling was a profession! After that, I got my feet wet by assisting established stylists and taking classes at FIT.

What steps did you take to prepare for transitioning into full time entrepreneurship?
First, I had to realize which aspect of styling I truly loved the most, which turned out to be personal styling. Once I came to that realization, I opted to make it the main focus of my business. Other steps included gaining support and feedback from friends and family. Very important!

What advice would you give someone considering a similar path?
Be prepared to wear many hats. I’ve had to learn how to be everything from a businesswoman to an artist to a social media strategist.

Are there any special projects you would like to work on or someone you would like to work with?
Down the road, I’d love to collaborate on designing some functional yet chic clothing basics for women.

What are your best marketing tips?
When marketing yourself and your business, try to avoid being too general about yourself and what you offer. Be specific about your specialties and who your target customer is.

What motivates you?
Positive feedback from clients. I love hearing stories of how I was able to help them create a better version of themselves through their wardrobes.

What’s next for you?
I’ve recently expanded my business to include San Francisco as well as New York. So now I’m working on developing an amazing client base on both coasts!
