Jessica Faulkner will debut her first collection at Fashion Week San Diego. After working and gaining experience as a freelance design assistant for the Los Angeles based women’s contemporary designer, Jane Oh, Jessica decided it was time to venture off and develop her own collection that focuses on practical clothing that can take a woman from day to night. She is excited to debut her first collection in her hometown where she is inspired by the lifestyle, the culture, and, most importantly, the women who make this city so special to her. Jessica also worked the first Fashion Week San Diego in 2008 and we couldn’t be more proud of her to be on the other side of the runway. Read on!
Tell me how and when everything started.
I have been working in the fashion industry for some time and finally decided that I was ready to launch my own line of women’s contemporary clothing this March.
When did you first know that you wanted to be a business owner?
I always knew that I wanted to own my own business. My parents own their own businesses and it always seemed natural that I would follow in their footsteps as an entrepreneur. I went to school for business before continuing my education in fashion design. It is important to be confident selling yourself.
Where do you get your inspiration for your collection?
The inspiration for my line includes a combination of menswear and tailoring, 3D components and sportswear.
What advice would you give someone considering a similar path?
You have to be absolutely passionate about what you are doing because there will be weeks without a day off. You have got to have a very strong work ethic and remain focused.
What makes your shop unique?
We have a variety of looks that are progressive, versatile, comfortable and audacious. We promote personal style, confidence and uniqueness.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is sporty, edgy and modern.
What’s next for your company?
Jessica Faulkner Spring/ Summer 2013 will hit stores in the beginning of February in addition to an e-commerce launch that focuses on exclusive pieces.
Thanks to Jessica for sharing her story. See her collection on Fashion Week San Diego.
