The 5-Minute Makeup Routine That Will Save Your Morning

If you missed your alarm and are running late, knowing a quick makeup routine can help you save time and get out the door faster. You just need a few makeup products that do double duty to look naturally beautiful and ready for the day. It would only take you five steps to get yourself polished up and gorgeous in mere minutes.

Start with a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. Apply the cream all over your face and let it set before going to the next step. The BB cream or tinted moisturizer will hydrate and give you flawless coverage. The best part is that it won’t look cakey or heavy on your skin. Save time by purchasing one that protects you from the sun (with an SPF over 25) for those mornings that you just don’t want to apply sunscreen and other products separately.

Skip heavy eye shadow. Leave the smoky eyes and dark hues for night time. I prefer to just skip this step (especially if I’m in a hurry), and go right ahead and wear mascara to freshen up my face, but it you just must use it, dab a glossy eyeshadow all over your lids.

Put on mascara and fill your brows. This step will wake your eyes right up. It’s the most effective way to look more bright-eyed without having to put on eyeliner or shadow. Coat your lashes and then work on your brows by filling any sparse areas with a pencil.

Sweep on blush. Brush a rosy or silky blush on the apples of your cheeks. You can apply with your fingers, but I find that a blush brush helps the color go on more evenly. If you want to save even more time, buy a double-duty blush and lip stain and sweep it across your cheeks and lips for a flush.

Apply on lip gloss. Add a pop of color to your face by wearing a rosy lip gloss. You can try on a darker shade or top off your creamy lipstick with a pinkish gloss.

  • Hi! I do the same routine, except: I line my eyes in shadow as a base for eye liner later in the day, and skip the mascara (my eyelashes have become sparse so this creates an illusion of having eyelashes). I use skin treatments first, though. As the day goes on, I freshen up by adding another touch of makeup now and then. In the second half of the day, I eventually have complete makeup with concealer, face powder, eye liner and eye shadow.

    • Love your routine! I often forget to retouch later in the day. I’m trying to get better at that and applying sunscreen when I go on afternoon walks with my dog. It’s a work in progress. 😂
