Five Things in August

I can’t believe we’re already in August. This year has really gone by in a flash for me. I don’t mind it has been a really tough year for my loved ones. We’ve gone through layoffs, death and fires, but we’re still standing and working harder than ever.

The emotional turmoil of the aforementioned events has me very focused on goals. The only thing right now that is going right is my freelance career. My business has boom tremendously this year (very necessary, since I’m the only salary in my household right now), and I’ve worked with dream brands and clients that I never thought it was possible.

Working long hours keeps my emotions at bay, since I don’t have much free time to analyze everything that has gone wrong this year. I choose to move forward and write new achievable goals every month. Here’s what I would love to accomplish this month.

Get my morning routine back. This has fallen through the cracks. Now, I get up and start working right away without breakfast, coffee or even a little pinterest in between sips. I’m on a bad habit of fist thing emails, client work, workout and two hours later I have breakfast, but no slow down just more work. I need my mornings back. This whole setup has me really tired and stress out.

Celebrate my husband’s birthday. My husband deserves a nice celebration this year and several presents. He has been going through a lot. I would throw him a party if we knew more people here, but I’m planning something special to cheer him up.

Write for fun. Every week I write over 10 pieces for my clients and about three blog posts here (when I can). Granted they are all topics I enjoy such as fashion, beauty, weddings, marketing, local, business and lifestyle. They take a lot out of me, because I love researching, learning and then writing in their brand voice. A few times a week, I want to write just for fun. Write from prompts, stories or even journal more often without the pressure of the words having to be perfect.

Go out with a friend. I get offers every month to do things, but my schedule has me so busy that I just say no to every invitation. This month I’m going to make time to at least have lunch or coffee with one friend. I’m good at keeping in contact over the phone, social media and emails. I need to make an effort in person as well.

Finish a class. Last month, Udemy had a huge sale and I bought several classes. I enjoy learning new things and improving my skills. The classes are short, but I haven’t been able to take them. I want to complete at least one more class this month.

What’s on your August’s to do list? Let me know in the comments!
