Do What You Love: Shannon Dye

Happy Monday everyone! Today’s feature comes from Shannon Dye.  She’s a wife, mother and now a “cameltoe” advocate! Read on this is going to be quite interesting!

shannon31. How did you get into fashion? Tell me how and when everything started.
It started one day in yoga class spring 2008, I was needing a product that smoothed my feminine parts out under tight yoga pants. I researched the internet and looked in retail stores, there was nothing out there!

2. When did you first know that you wanted to be in fashion?
When I had the idea for Camelflage and started working on the prototype, I finally figured out what worked. I thought, this is a great product and I know I’m not the only woman out there that needs it. I was excited to enter in the fashion and apparel industry.

3. If you weren’t in the fashion industry, what would you like to be doing?
I would definitely be in the food industry. I started culinary school but didn’t get to finish. My kids were too young at the time for mommy to be at school full time. Plus most schools require you to leave the country to study for a couple of months (France or Italy). Now I cook as a hobby and sell panties as a living.
4. Tell us about your fabulous store and what products or serviced do you offered?
Right now I sell my specialty panties on-line, they are called Camelflage. They have a flexible, breathable insert sewn into the panty. On top of the insert is a Sportek wicking material that draws moisture away from your body. These panties are made to smooth out what is commonly known as “cameltoe” under tight pants or clothes.

5. How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my personal style as classic. Big black Jackie O sunglasses, if I’m going out for the evening usually a black cocktail dress and heels. During the day I am very casual with a tank top, cute jeans with flip flops. I am getting a little more daring, I just ordered some Romeo and Juliet couture slashed leggings. They are from the vampire collection.

6. Who is your favorite designer?
My favorite designer would have to be Donna Karen. Her designs are classy and for every woman. You look at some of these really eccentric designers, their clothes are so funky and artistic. But the everyday woman couldn’t get away with wearing those pieces. They are fun to look at but not practical.
7. If you had a choice of all designers in the world, who would you prefer to work for? Why?
It would probably have to be Gwen Stefani for LAMB. She is such a fashion icon. It would be fun to work a long side someone who knows so much about fashion, I would be able to learn a lot!

8. Are there any special projects you would like to work on?
I’m a brand new company, I’m just concentrating on getting the word out about Camelflage, I guess that would be my special project.

9. Which magazines do you read? Which magazine is your favorite?
Going back to what I would be doing if I wasn’t doing Camelflage, I really like to cook, so I get Bon Appétit, Gourmet, Cooks Illustrated, Cooking Light. I love trying new recipes and reading about culinary adventures. I also like Psychology Today, Women’s Health and Glamour. My favorite would have to be Psychology Today.

shannon10. What do you see on stores that you think is really great?
When a store has a good visual team to dress the mannequins. I get inspired to think outside of the box and try a new style or trend.

11. What motivates you?
I get motivated by friends and family. They are like little cheerleaders rooting for you on the sidelines.

12. What’s next for you?
Right now I just have a panty line, in the future I am hoping to expand into active wear and bathing suits. This is just the start, I am looking forward to the future!
